The legendary cartoonist passed away earlier today at the age of 87 following open heart surgery. The comics world grieves the loss of this grand old gentleman that helped open the gates wide open for the public to appreciate this underrated medium. He also lent his name to the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards that recognizes various recipients that made excellent and valuable contributions to the comic industry.
